The ship
Mutin
You are here : Home / Ship / MutinThe dundee Mutin was built in 1927 in Les Sables d'Olonne for the fleet pilot corps and the training of military sailors. She is the oldest sailing boat of the French Navy. It is a ship on which sailing remains done in the old way. Manoeuvres are still carried out by hand, with no mechanical concessions other than the engine. The windlass, the anchor’s winch, is handled by two people.
During World War II, Mutin was used as a "spy fishing ship" along the French coast by the British military. She then reached the Mediterranean Sea and sailed to the Adriatic Sea before being used as a rear base for the British secret services operating in Italy and Yugoslavia. Strafed by airplanes, she was refurbished in Caen and returned to the French at the end of the war. She then joined the « Ecole des mousses » in Loctudy, then the French naval academy in Poulmic and finally Brest.
