Shtandart
You are here : Home / Ship / ShtandartThis vessel is the replica of the Russian frigate "Shtandat" built in 1703. The historic frigate became the flagship of a Russian fleet commanded by tsar Peter the Great who draw inspiration from the Dutch and English models.
The reconstruction of this identical frigate was carried by a historian commissioned by the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. On the site of a former shipyard on the banks of the river Neva, the replica of the Shtandart was completed in 5 years, from 1994 to 1999. This replica was built by the Maritime Education Center of St. Petersburg as part of the Shtandart Project. This project involves training young Russians in wooden shipbuilding and traditional sailing. This initiative was sponsored by the Russian and British governments, and also by financial contributions from foreign donors. The vessel is owned by a non-profit organization that offers training cruises.
